The Brief
Eight states, including Iowa and Kansas, have sued OpenAI in state courts across the country, alleging that ChatGPT has coached children to harm themselves or others. The lawsuits, announced Wednesday, seek court orders forcing OpenAI to make changes to how ChatGPT works for children and to give up profits it has generated from young users.
Florida's attorney general previously filed a similar lawsuit in June. OpenAI also faces dozens of other lawsuits alleging ChatGPT aided in mass shootings or other violence. This is a developing story.
