AOC issues thinly veiled threat to Kamala Harris as Democrats

You have to hand it to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The woman knows how to make an entrance. While Kamala Harris is still trying to figure out what happened in November, AOC is already out here letting everyone know she’s got her eyes on the top prize. The New York Democrat hasn’t ruled out a 2028 run, and her recent comments about Harris have the unmistakable flavor of a warning shot across the bow.

The "thinly veiled threat" in question is really just AOC being AOC. She’s not subtle. She’s signaling to the donor class and the party operatives that the old guard had its shot and blew it. Harris, for her part, is reportedly "laughing through the pain" at her own loss, which is about the only thing she can do at this point. Watching these two circle each other is like watching a reality show where everyone hates the cameras but still shows up for the paycheck. The Democratic Party is already devouring itself, and the 2028 primary is shaping up to be a knife fight in a phone booth.

What’s genuinely interesting here is how quickly the left turns on its own. Harris had the historic moment, the media fawning, and the celebrity endorsements, and it still wasn’t enough. Now AOC is positioning herself as the voice of the future, claiming the progressive mantle while the establishment tries to figure out if she’s a gift or a grenade. She’s tapped into something real, though. The base is restless, and they’re tired of losing to Donald Trump. AOC represents the id of the Democratic Party, unburdened by the need to appeal to the middle or pretend she respects the rules of the game.

We can sit back and enjoy this. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a party that spends all its time lecturing us about unity turn on its own with the ferocity of a cornered animal. Their problem is that they can’t decide if they want to be the party of the working class or the party of the coastal elite, and AOC is forcing them to pick a side. The Democrats are about to eat their own, and we’ve got front-row seats. For all their talk about saving democracy, they can’t even save themselves from each other.
