BBC seeks Trump family subpoenas in defamation case

The BBC picking a defamation fight and then trying to drag Don Jr., Ivanka, and Jared Kushner into depositions tells you something about how thin their footing actually is. When a network gets caught splicing a speech to make it sound like the president called for violence, the honest move is to admit the edit was misleading and correct it. Instead they're lawyering up and going after the family, presumably hoping someone says something usable rather than because they have real evidence the edit was fair.

This is the standard playbook now. Can't win on the facts of what you actually broadcast, so you widen the net and turn it into a fishing expedition. Subpoenaing the president's kids and son-in-law isn't really about building a defense, it's about generating headlines, exhausting the plaintiff, and hoping the story becomes about family drama instead of the doctored tape that started this whole mess.

The BBC is a taxpayer-funded broadcaster with a reputation for editorial neutrality it hasn't earned in years. A $10 billion lawsuit is enormous, sure, and Trump's team will have to prove real damages, not just embarrassment. But the network's response so far has been to lawyer its way out of accountability rather than own the edit. That's not a defense. That's a delay tactic dressed up as one.
