Bloomberg’s Anti-Gun Media Outlet Just Sued DOJ

Bloomberg’s anti-gun outlet suing the Justice Department is a funny kind of confession. If you really believed the DOJ was just doing routine “public safety” work, you would not be rushing to court the minute it builds a Second Amendment Section inside the Civil Rights Division. The fact that this move spooks them tells you they know how lopsided the playing field has been for years.

The DOJ section has a published mission statement, and the basic idea is not radical: treat gun rights like actual civil rights. That should not be controversial in a country where bureaucrats and blue-state attorneys general have gotten comfortable treating the Second Amendment as a second-class clause. You don’t create a new office unless you think enforcement has been one-way traffic. For a long time it has been.

Of course the press framing will be that this is “politicizing” justice, as if the DOJ hasn’t been used to lean on lawful gun owners while giving a wink and a shrug to the people actually driving violence. We’ve watched rulemaking games, selective prosecutions, and endless harassment dressed up as “common sense.” The panic is about losing control of the narrative, not about the text of the Constitution. If the mission statement is public, then argue it in public. Don’t try to litigate it into silence.

Here’s the simple question: why shouldn’t citizens get a federal civil-rights backstop when states and agencies play cute with permitting, carry, and ownership? We’re told every other right deserves aggressive protection. This one is always the exception. If Bloomberg’s camp wants to sue, fine.
