When a guy who’s built his brand on trench warfare starts talking about “life as we know it,” you don’t have to agree with every word to hear the alarm bell.

The part worth sitting with is this: Roy is saying the system can’t even name the problem, much less manage it. Washington can barely pass a budget on time, yet we’re sprinting into an economy where machines can write, design, persuade, and scam at scale. That’s not sci-fi. It’s already here. And it’s going to hit regular people first, not think tank panels. Jobs get redefined. Credentials get cheapened. Fraud gets easier. We also appreciate that he’s not using AI as another excuse for a censorship crusade. The left’s instinct will be to “save democracy” by policing speech and outsourcing truth to the same institutions that told us the laptop story was fake and the border was secure. If the answer to AI is more control by the people who’ve already abused it, we’re in trouble. A serious approach starts with protecting the country: securing critical infrastructure, hardening elections from deepfake chaos, and making sure America leads the chips, the data centers, and the talent.

Still, it’s fair to ask why a fighter’s move is to walk away. Maybe he thinks the building can’t be fixed. Maybe he’s right. But if Roy’s message to his colleagues is “wake up,” the follow-up has to be “do the work.” We need Republicans who can govern like this is real, not just tweet like it’s a headline.
