CNN, MS Now, and Politico ask judge to extend order pausing Trump’s ban

Three newsrooms just filed into federal court to demand a seat at the table. Not for the right to report. For the right to be physically near the president. CNN, MSNBC, and Politico want a judge to extend the order blocking President Trump’s ban from the White House press pool. They’re calling it a fight for press freedom. It’s actually a fight about who gets to hold a microphone in the same room as the commander in chief.

The uncomfortable truth these outlets don’t want to hear is that access is not a right. The First Amendment protects their ability to publish and criticize. It does not guarantee any particular organization a chair in the briefing room. The White House press pool is a courtesy, not a constitutional mandate. Trump decided these outlets are so openly hostile that they’ve forfeited the privilege. That’s his call to make, and it’s the same call any boss makes when deciding who gets invited to the meeting.

What is galling is their approach. These same outlets have spent years describing Trump as an existential threat and a wannabe dictator. Now they are begging the judicial branch to overrule how he runs his own press operation. That’s not principled journalism. That’s forced-access entitlement. It’s a child demanding dessert after spitting out the meal.

The judge should lift the restraining order and let the White House run the White House. If CNN, MSNBC, and Politico want to inform the public, they can do it from the hallway or the press office like everyone else. The American people are not buying the false victimhood act. They see a bunch of media titans shocked that someone finally told them no. The press doesn’t need the president’s company. It needs to earn the audience’s trust. These outlets are spending their energy on litigation instead.
