Still, this is a real problem for them: if your own insiders think your “next up” candidate can’t win, then the party has been selling a story it doesn’t believe. Meanwhile, the media that spent years telling us Harris was a “top-tier” politician will now pretend this is shocking. It isn’t. The only surprise is someone admitted it.

For an America First movement that’s already watched President Trump beat the “inevitable” candidates before, this is familiar territory. Democrats are trying to manage optics while voters are trying to pay rent and buy groceries. If Harris is truly last in their internal rankings, the question isn’t whether Republicans should pounce. The question is why Democrats thought they could keep this bottled up forever, and why so many reporters played along.
