EXCLUSIVE: Trump’s CBP axes Biden-era policy allowing private

The Biden administration ran the border like a hospitality wing. While agents were overwhelmed, CBP was reportedly allowed to solicit private gifts for illegal immigrants in custody. Not snacks from a local church. Gifts, as in a formal policy. The previous leadership of the agency thought this made them compassionate. It made them look like they were running a welcome center.

Commissioner Rodney Scott ended that policy, and good. His move is part of the larger Trump border crackdown, but this detail matters on its own. Border agents are not charity coordinators. They are law enforcement. When the agency itself is begging for donations to give to people who just crossed into the country illegally, it sends a clear message: do it, and we will take care of you. That is exactly the wrong message.

The left will frame this as cruelty. They always do. But what is actually cruel is telling honest migrants waiting in line that the fastest way into America is to violate the law and get a free t-shirt while you're at it. The border is not a concierge service. Scott's decision strips out the nonsense and reminds everyone what the job actually is: consistent, orderly enforcement.

This is a small policy in the grand scheme of border security. But it reveals a shift in mindset. Deterrence works when the benefits of illegal entry disappear. No gifts, no leniency, no pretending. Just the rule of law, applied evenly. That's not mean. That's the whole point.
