Federal illegal voting arrest becomes latest flashpoint in

One illegal vote is one too many, but this one has a name, a face, and an eight-year paper trail. Federal agents arrested a Senegalese national in New Jersey for casting ballots in multiple elections since 2018, and suddenly Governor Mikie Sherrill is getting the kind of scrutiny she clearly hoped to avoid. This wasn't a registration typo or a misunderstood form. The man reportedly voted illegally year after year, and the state's own lax policies made it easy for him to keep doing it.

Sherrill can deflect all she wants, but the timing is brutal. She spent her campaign selling herself as a moderate who would crack down on disorder, yet her state has become the exact kind of place where noncitizen voting slips through the cracks. The arrest happened on her watch. That is the story. The FBI and ICE did their jobs, but the question is why it took until 2025 for anyone to notice that someone without citizenship had been participating in American elections for nearly a decade.

This is not about one man's mistake. This is about Democrats who keep telling us the system is fine while real evidence piles up that it is not. Sherrill should have to answer for what her administration knew and when. Voters deserve better than a shrug from their governor. If she wants to prove she is serious about election integrity, she can start by explaining how this was allowed to happen in her state, and what she actually plans to do to make sure it never happens again.
