GOP bill leaves out anti-Planned Parenthood language

Somebody in leadership decided this was the hill not to die on, and honestly, fine. If the choice was between another doomed messaging fight over Planned Parenthood funding and actually getting a bill through, they picked the version that survives contact with the Senate. That's not a betrayal, that's arithmetic.

But let's not pretend this doesn't sting for the people who've spent years being told to hold the line on exactly this issue. Every cycle, candidates run on defunding Planned Parenthood. Every cycle, when the votes get counted, the language quietly disappears and everyone moves on like it was never promised. Voters notice the pattern even when leadership hopes they won't.

The defense will be that this fight belongs somewhere else, some future bill, some reconciliation package down the road, and maybe that's even true this time. But "later" has a track record, and it isn't good. If the strategy is to bank political capital now and spend it on the actual policy fight eventually, somebody needs to say that out loud instead of hoping nobody counts the omissions.

None of this means the bill itself is bad or that pragmatism is a dirty word. It means the party keeps asking its own voters to trust a promise it hasn't been willing to cash in years. That trust isn't infinite, and pretending otherwise is how you lose people who were never asking for much beyond follow-through.
