GOP Rep Maria Salazar Reveals ‘Very Good Conversation’ With Trump

Maybe the most refreshing part of this story is that a Republican congresswoman can say out loud that she had a “very good conversation” with President Trump and actually mean it. Maria Salazar didn’t walk out with the usual Washington shrug. She said she hopes he listened. That is not a small thing.

There is a tendency in the press to treat every Trump meeting as either a scene from a mob movie or a therapy session. The reality is simpler. He takes calls. He hears people out. That is how the America First agenda gets built, not by shouting from think tank podiums but by elected officials bringing their case directly to the president. Salazar clearly wants something, probably on immigration or border policy, and she used her access to make the pitch.

Good for her. That is what a representative is supposed to do. She is not lobbing insults from cable news. She is sitting across from the man who sets the direction and making her argument. If she gets something real for her district, great. If not, she still did what Floridians sent her to do: she showed up and spoke plain.

Of course the left will spin this as a gesture of subservience. They cannot stand the idea that a conservative woman can walk into Trump’s world, hold her own, and leave on good terms. That is their loss. The rest of us understand that persuasion starts with a conversation, not a press release.
