GOP women sound alarm as Lindsay Clancy backlash revives calls to

people using the Lindsay Clancy case as an excuse to talk about repealing the 19th Amendment. Not “let’s debate family policy” or “what went wrong with mental health care,” but ripping up women’s right to vote. That’s not seriousness. It’s self-sabotage.

Republican women who are sounding the alarm are right to do it. Female voters are not some side quest for the GOP. They’re our neighbors, our wives, our daughters, our coworkers, and a huge part of any winning coalition. If we’re trying to persuade swing voters that we can govern like adults, then we can’t have loud corners of the right turning a horrific, emotionally charged trial into a medieval political wish list. You don’t win elections by picking fights with half the electorate.

There’s also a basic decency problem here. The Clancy story is grim and complicated, and it raises hard questions about accountability, postpartum mental illness, and how institutions fail families. Turning that into “women shouldn’t vote” is not only morally off, it’s lazy. It dodges the real work of building policy that helps families and protects kids without excusing violence. This is a case for facts and solutions, not rage-click politics.

Democrats will happily seize on this as proof that Republicans are out to roll back women’s lives. We don’t have to hand them the ammunition. The party’s job is to talk about inflation, safety, schools, and a country that works again, not indulge online dares that make us look unserious. If we’re serious about winning, we should say it plainly: no, we’re not repealing the 19th Amendment. Then get back to the issues that actually move voters.
