Hunter Biden says he ‘may have to’ run for president in 2028 after earlier dismissal

Hunter Biden joking about 2028 is the kind of thing that would be funny if his last name weren't attached to five years of the country pretending not to notice things. He tells a conservative radio host he "may have to" run if he gets his endorsement, everybody chuckles, and the clip moves on. Fine. But the joke only lands because it's not actually absurd anymore. This is a guy who was on a foreign board he had no business being on, who got a plea deal that fell apart in open court, who was pardoned by his own father for basically anything he might have done over an eleven-year stretch. Running for president is the punchline. The setup was real.

What's telling is how comfortable he is even floating it. There's no wincing, no "please, I've had enough of politics." He's testing the water on a friendly show with a guy who could plausibly write him a check. That's not a slip of the tongue, that's a guy who has watched his family's brand survive things that would end most political careers and figured maybe it can survive one more thing.

We're not writing this because we think Hunter Biden is a serious 2028 contender. He probably isn't, and if he tried it would be a gift to every Republican on the ballot. We're writing it because the ease of the joke says something about how normalized the last few years became. A name that should carry real baggage gets floated for president as a bit on a call-in show, and nobody blinks. That's the actual story here, not whether he runs.
