But when you’re running for the Senate, this is the kind of thing that tells voters exactly what you plan to spend your time signaling about. This is the résumé line they chose.

Democrats keep acting like politics is a talent show for who can be the most “in on the joke.” Meanwhile families are looking at grocery bills, rent, gas, and a border that still isn’t under control. And Talarico’s big reveal is basically: don’t worry, I’m fluent in the culture war you see online. Great. But if you want statewide power, you should probably show you can do statewide problems. Voters aren’t asking for a favorite drag queen. They’re asking for a serious plan.

There’s another angle here, too. The left loves to pretend drag is just harmless fun, until anyone raises a hand and asks why it keeps getting pushed into schools, kids’ events, and taxpayer-adjacent programming. Then it’s accusations and name-calling. If Talarico wants to make drag part of his political identity, he can. He just shouldn’t act shocked when parents hear that and wonder where his priorities are. If you make it a campaign message, you make it a campaign issue.

Republicans don’t need to overreact or moral-panic our way through this. Just stay grounded. Ask the simple questions Democrats hate answering: What are you going to do about inflation? Crime? Energy? The border? And if the spotlight lands on this “favorite drag queen” stuff, that’s not because conservatives forced it. It’s because Talarico’s team decided it was a selling point.
