Jewish House Democrat calls out el Sayed for refusing to ‘condemn the words of Hasan Piker’

Give Brad Schneider some credit here. He actually said the thing out loud instead of hiding behind a statement about "both sides" and "context matters." Hasan Piker told his million-plus viewers that American Jews who support Israel are partly to blame for antisemitism against them, which is a genuinely ugly thing to say to your own audience, and Schneider called it what it is. El Sayed, running for Senate in a state with real Jewish voters and a real history of tension over exactly this issue, wouldn't touch it. He didn't defend Piker's comment. He just wouldn't condemn it either. That's not nuance. That's a candidate doing math about his coalition in real time.

This is the pattern we keep seeing from the younger, online left of the Democratic Party. It's not that they can't find the words to criticize antisemitism when it comes from a friendly source. It's that they've decided the cost of saying it is higher than the cost of staying silent. El Sayed knows exactly who Piker is and exactly what he said. Refusing to answer a direct question is itself an answer.

Schneider deserves credit for not letting it slide, especially as the head of a group trying to keep some daylight between mainstream Democrats and the crowd that treats Israel's existence as the actual source of antisemitism rather than a target of it. But one press release from one member of Congress isn't a party position. The real test is whether Michigan Democrats punish el Sayed for this at the ballot box or whether they shrug and move on, because a shrug is basically an endorsement.
