The Brief

YouTuber Gav Murphy has said his girlfriend Honey Ross, daughter of TV presenter Jonathan Ross, is learning Welsh via the Duolingo app and practising speaking it to their dog, Coco. Murphy, 41, from Caerphilly, spoke on BBC Radio Cymru's 'Beti a'i Phobol' about Honey, 28, the youngest of Jonathan Ross and Jane Goldman's three children.

He said she has an "incredible" memory that helps with language learning, but lacks confidence in speaking Welsh. The couple live in London, so Murphy encourages her to practise with their dog, saying: "If you speak Welsh with Coco, she's not going to tell you if you're wrong."

Murphy, a video producer who graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2007, co-founded the YouTube gaming channel RKG in 2019. Honey Ross, raised in Hampstead, is a writer, podcaster and model who co-founded the Pink Protest movement in 2017, campaigning for women's rights and period poverty funding.

Murphy said she "changed laws" through that work. He also said he gets on well with Honey's father, describing them both as "professional silly-billies," and enjoys hearing Jonathan Ross's stories about famous Welsh people like Anthony Hopkins and Tom Jones.
