'Let Them Eat Cake' Liberal David Crowley Wants the Government to Have More of Your Money

David Crowley wants Wisconsin voters to believe he's the affordability candidate. That's a tough sell when the receipts say otherwise. As Milwaukee County Executive, he's had years to show what "affordable" looks like under his leadership, and the answer, if you've been paying property tax bills or watching county spending, is not encouraging. Running on affordability after presiding over rising costs isn't a platform. It's a rebrand.

This is the pattern we keep seeing from Democrats up and down the ballot. Spend years growing government, expanding budgets, adding fees and levies, and then, right around election season, discover a sudden passion for the family budget. Voters aren't stupid. They remember what things cost last year versus what they cost now, and no amount of campaign messaging changes what actually happened on someone's watch.

The "let them eat cake" comparison stings because it's apt. It's easy to talk about affordability from a position where your own paycheck comes from the taxpayers whose bills keep climbing. Crowley isn't proposing to shrink government's footprint in people's lives. He's proposing to run the same playbook statewide, just with a bigger budget and more zeros.

Wisconsin families don't need another politician promising relief while quietly reaching for more of their paycheck. They need someone whose record actually matches the rhetoric. Crowley's Milwaukee tenure isn't the audition tape for that role. It's the warning label.
