But the man now eyeing the White House spent the rest of his life inside the Democratic machine, as a fundraiser, an operative, and a Chicago mayor. The Arby’s story is a good anecdote. It is not a working class résumé.

Emanuel has spent 2026 acting like a candidate, which means he’s polling, courting donors, and leaking to friendly reporters. The party that claims to champion the little guy keeps turning to a guy who has spent decades cozying up to the powerful. Democrats are about to rediscover that process doesn’t beat message. They keep losing working class voters because their answer is always another insider who talks like a strategist.

Maybe he thinks his famous temper and sharp elbows will make him look like a fighter. We’ve seen that act before. It’s the same establishment shuffle that produced Hillary Clinton and every other electable-sounding Democrat who couldn’t figure out why she lost.
