Netflix teases instadoc on Trump secretly boarding another aircraft in Turkey

A president climbing out of a catering truck to sneak onto a different plane sounds like a scene from a movie, which is presumably why Netflix decided it was a movie. Whatever actually happened in Turkey that day, the fact that it's now a streaming property before most Americans even know the full story tells you something about the media ecosystem we're living in. News breaks, and within months it's been optioned, packaged with dramatic music, and sold back to us as content.

There's nothing wrong with documenting a genuinely strange security episode. If Trump swapped planes for legitimate safety reasons, that's a story worth telling straight. But "instadoc" is a tell. It means speed to market matters more than depth, and speed to market usually means someone decided this would generate buzz before anyone had time to ask hard questions about why it happened or who leaked the details to reporters standing around watching it unfold.

We'd also just note the asymmetry here. Plenty of odd, even alarming, security and travel decisions get made around past presidents and never become streaming events. This one apparently checked enough boxes, sounds strange enough, has Trump's name attached, to justify the fast-turnaround treatment. Maybe the underlying facts are fascinating. But when journalism and entertainment blur this quickly, the audience deserves to know which one it's actually watching.
