Norway faces backlash over 'deeply racist' proposal to jail

Israelis living over the Green Line. The proposal on the table is a trade ban tied specifically to Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria. Not Russia. Not China. Not Iran. One small country, one disputed set of neighborhoods, one very familiar people. When your “human rights” policy starts by carving out Jews for special rules, people notice.

Supporters will say this is just about international law and consumer ethics, and Norway can argue that if it wants. But the practical effect is to slap a stigma on Jewish communities while doing nothing to change the reality on the ground. Hamas doesn’t get weaker because Oslo bans a bottle of wine or a box of dates. The Palestinian Authority doesn’t get cleaner. And the world doesn’t get safer. This is punishment dressed up as principle, and everyone knows it.

If Norway truly cares about peace, it could spend its energy pushing both sides away from maximalism, or cracking down on the money that rewards terrorism, or pressuring the institutions that keep the conflict frozen for their own benefit. Instead it’s reaching for a symbolic boycott that will predictably thrill activists and harden attitudes. That is the opposite of statecraft. It’s a moral pose with a customs code attached.

We’re also tired of the selective outrage. Europe loves to lecture America about “values,” then it turns around and runs the oldest play in the book: isolate Israel, pretend it’s just policy, and act shocked when people call it what it looks like. If Norway can’t apply the same standard across the board, it shouldn’t pretend this is neutral..
