The Brief

During the “Manningcast” alternate broadcast of the Rams-Bills “Monday Night Football” game, Peyton Manning criticized the officiating crew after the game clock stopped before Rams kicker Harrison Mevis attempted a game-winning 48-yard field goal in overtime. With the score tied at 34-34, Peyton said, “There’s no time outs why is the clocked stopped? The referees are icing him. That’s nice. No explanation.”

The kick was blocked by Bills defensive lineman Greg Rousseau, and Buffalo went on to win 37-34 on a field goal by Josh Allen. Rams coach Sean McVay was seen running down the sideline to question the officiating crew about the clock stoppage.

Postgame, McVay did not address the officiating, instead criticizing his special teams unit as “not even close to good enough” and saying he regretted “kicking that and not having a better call.” He added he would be “evaluating everything about the kicking unit,” as Mevis went 0-for-2 on the night, having also missed a kick in regulation.

The Rams, now 3-2, sit in third place in the NFC West behind the Seahawks and 49ers.
