Philadelphia DA says ‘we’re gonna blow it up’ when discussing Trump’s White House ballroom

A sitting district attorney stood at a podium and said the White House ballroom is "gonna blow it up." Not metaphorically dismantled, not voted out, not challenged in court. Blown up. If you swapped the target and the speaker, this would be the top story on every network for a week, and rightly so. Instead it barely registers because Larry Krasner said it, and Larry Krasner saying inflammatory things has become background noise in Philadelphia.

That's the real problem here, not just the remark itself. Krasner has spent his tenure as DA treating rhetorical arson as a personality trait, and his office's approach to actual crime in Philadelphia has often felt like an afterthought by comparison. Prosecutors are supposed to model respect for institutions, even the ones led by people they can't stand. When the city's top law enforcement official jokes about destroying a federal building tied to the presidency, at a public event no less, that's not edgy commentary. It's the kind of thing that gets normal citizens a visit from the Secret Service.

Context matters, and this happened at a slavery commemoration ceremony, which makes the framing even stranger. Whatever grievance Krasner was reaching for got buried under a line that sounds like a threat regardless of intent. Words from elected officials carry weight precisely because of the office they hold. A DA should know that better than anyone.

We're not interested in manufacturing outrage over every loose sentence a Democrat says at a podium. But this one deserves a straight answer from Krasner's office, not a shrug, and it deserves more attention than it's getting.
