Phillies’ Alec Bohm settles lawsuit against parents to end legal battle

this was never going to end with anyone feeling good about it. Bohm settled. Fine. But the fact that it got to a courtroom at all tells you something about where things stand in this country when even family can't sort out a financial dispute without a judge in the room.

We don't know every detail of the Bohm family's finances, and honestly it's none of our business. What is worth noting is how normal this has become. Athletes, entertainers, anyone who comes into real money young, and suddenly the people who raised them are defendants. There was a time when messy family money fights got handled at Thanksgiving with some yelling and maybe a slammed door, not with subpoenas.

None of this makes Bohm a villain or his parents saints, or the other way around. People are complicated and money makes everyone worse. But there's something a little sad about a professional athlete's biggest public battle this year being with the two people who presumably drove him to Little League practice. Glad it's settled. Wish it never needed lawyers in the first place.
