Rep. Jim Clyburn says Democrats could impeach Trump if they win the House in midterm elections

Jim Clyburn just told everyone the plan before the votes are even cast. Democrats haven't won the House, haven't announced articles, haven't identified a specific offense worth impeaching over this time. Doesn't matter. The strategy is out there in plain English: win the majority, then figure out the impeachment. That's not accountability, that's a predetermined outcome looking for a justification.

We've seen this movie twice already. Two impeachments, two acquittals, and a whole lot of energy spent on process fights that most voters outside the Beltway never asked for. If Clyburn had said "we'll investigate wrongdoing and let the facts lead us," fine, that's how oversight is supposed to work. Instead he's previewing the conclusion before the investigation exists. That tells you this isn't about a specific act Trump committed. It's about a political appetite that never really went away.

There's also a practical problem here that Democrats keep ignoring: this stuff doesn't move the numbers the way they think it does. Voters watched two impeachment sagas play out and then watched Trump get reelected anyway. If the party's closing pitch for the midterms is "give us the gavel so we can go after him again," that's a message about Washington's obsessions, not about grocery prices, wages, or the border. Clyburn may think he's rallying the base. He might just be handing Republicans their turnout argument for free.
