Rubio Confronts an Epidemic of Left-Wing Violence and Extortion

When Adam Smith is backing up Marco Rubio's account of what's happening, you'd think that would settle the argument. Smith is not exactly a MAGA fixture. He's a Democrat, a longtime member of Congress, someone with every incentive to downplay this if he could. He couldn't. That should tell you something about how bad it's actually gotten out there.

The pattern being described isn't abstract anger. It's targeted intimidation, threats against people for their politics or their jobs, the kind of thing that used to get treated as a national scandal regardless of who the target was. Now it gets a shrug from half the political class because the wrong people are on the receiving end. That double standard is the real story here, and it's the part nobody wants to say out loud.

We've watched this movie before. Violence gets minimized right up until it touches someone the minimizers actually like, and then suddenly it's a five-alarm crisis. Rubio naming it plainly, and having a Democrat's account line up behind him, should be an opening for some actual bipartisan seriousness. Extortion and threats aimed at silencing people are not a partisan issue, or shouldn't be.

The test now is whether progressive leaders treat this as the emergency their own colleague is describing, or whether they wait for a more convenient villain before they'll say the obvious out loud. Political violence doesn't check party ID before it hits..
