Sen. Fetterman Says the DSA Wants to ‘Impoverish’ Middle-Class Whites and Seize Production

John Fetterman calling out his own party's socialist wing isn't nothing, and we'd be lying if we said it didn't feel a little satisfying to watch. When a sitting Democratic senator says out loud that the DSA's actual economic program means impoverishing the middle class and seizing the means of production, that's not a Republican talking point. That's a guy who's been in enough union halls and diners in Pennsylvania to know what happens when you say "seize production" to people who own a house, a truck, and a small business they built themselves.

But let's not pretend this makes Fetterman some kind of hero of the movement. He's still voting with his party on plenty else, and one round of honesty about the DSA doesn't erase a voting record. What it does show is how thin the ice has gotten under the progressive left's economic fantasies. Even people inside the tent are starting to say the quiet part out loud: this stuff doesn't poll, it doesn't work, and normal people can smell it coming from a mile away.

The bigger story here is that it took this long for anyone with a "D" next to their name to say it plainly. For years the DSA-aligned crowd got treated in coverage like an energetic youth wing rather than what it actually is, a group whose stated goals include abolishing private ownership of productive property. Fetterman just said the thing everyone paying attention already knew. Credit where it's due, but don't act surprised when the rest of his party doesn't follow him there.
