There’s Only One Flag Real Patriots Should Fly

Let's just say it plainly: the Confederate flag lost. It lost the war it was raised for, and it should lose the argument for space at a state fair booth in 2024. There's nothing conservative about nostalgia for a government that took up arms against the United States to preserve slavery. That's not heritage, it's the opposite of the thing we're supposed to be conserving, which is the American experiment itself.

We get why some people bristle at being told what flag to fly. Nobody likes a scold. But this isn't about policing every bumper sticker in the country. It's about a booth at a public-facing event that chose, deliberately, to fly the banner of secession and slavery instead of the flag of the country that booth was operating in. That's a choice, and choices tell you something about priorities.

Conservatives spend a lot of energy defending institutions, tradition, and the idea that America is worth loving as it actually is, not as some romanticized alternate history. The Confederate flag cuts against every bit of that. It says the real America, the one that won, the one that abolished slavery and held together, was the wrong side. If you're serious about putting country first, there's only one flag that does that.

None of this requires erasing history or pretending the Civil War didn't happen. Museums exist for a reason. But a state fair booth in 2024 isn't a history lesson, it's a statement about what you want to represent you today. And there's a much better flag sitting right there for anyone who actually means it.
