Troy Jackson looked into the camera and served up a logger in suspenders sipping boba tea. That’s not working class outreach. That’s a costume party with a straw. If the Maine Democrat actually believed this video would make Susan Collins look like the out-of-touch one, he misread his own skit. A real logger would tell you that boba tea has no place in a wood lot, and the snark about Collins just made him look like he was trying too hard to be relatable.

The thing is, Maine voters know better. They have spent years watching Collins work the state fair, sit through town halls, and take her lumps on the budget. She doesn’t need to pretend to be something she isn’t. Jackson does, and that’s the difference. This video was supposed to position him as the champion of the common man, but all it did was reveal how little he thinks of them. They’re props for his campaign, not people he actually understands.

Maybe the worst part is how predictable it is. Every cycle, some Democrat puts on a plaid shirt, grabs a new accessory, and hopes nobody notices they’re still the same old coastal elitists. Boba tea won’t wash that away. It just gives voters one more reason to laugh at the guy. Voters are not props, and this kind of phony outreach backfires. Jackson can call himself working class all he wants, but the only thing he’s proven is that he’s not fooling anyone but himself.
