Trump Outright Bans ‘Fake News’ Media Outlets From The White House

There’s a simple question hiding under all the shouting about President Trump’s decision to bar certain media outlets from White House events: why should liars get a front-row seat? Trump’s own words are blunt enough. Media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies. That’s not a threat to the First Amendment. It’s a recognition that a press pass was never a constitutional right. It’s an invitation to the White House, and the host gets to decide who sits at the table.

Some of these outlets have spent years publishing stories built on anonymous sources that turned out to be invented, headlines that contradicted their own reporting, and corrections buried on page twelve. They haven’t been covering this administration. They’ve been running opposition research with a byline. They turned journalism into a partisan weapon. And now they’re shocked that the man they’ve been aiming at decided to stop handing them ammunition.

The predictable response is to scream “censorship.” That’s stale. No one is shutting down these outlets. They can still print whatever they want. What they can’t do is demand access to the president while treating the room like their own private spin studio. The White House briefing is not a public library. It’s the president’s house. The press corps is a privilege, not a grant of immunity. If professional gatekeepers won’t police themselves, the president is fully within his rights to do the policing.
