Trump’s men at the United Nations

Rep. Dina Titus sitting there confused about why Trump's U.N. team gets things done is basically the whole story in miniature. Democrats have spent eight years treating Trump's management style as a personality disorder to be diagnosed rather than a method to be evaluated on results. He hires people who actually want to do the job, tells them what he wants, and gets out of the way. That's not chaos. That's just not Washington.

The U.N. reforms in question didn't happen because someone held a listening session or formed a working group. They happened because the people Trump sent to New York treated American taxpayer money like it mattered, which apparently still counts as radical behavior in that building. For decades the U.N. has functioned as a place where American dollars go to fund conferences about problems that never get solved. A mission staff that shows up actually trying to fix that is going to look strange to people who've only ever seen the alternative.

What's telling is that the hearing became about Trump's temperament instead of the reform outcomes themselves. That's usually a sign the outcomes were hard to argue with. When you can't contest the results, you contest the personality of the guy who produced them.

None of this requires anyone to love Trump's Twitter habits or his cabinet drama. But there's a difference between style and substance, and the U.N. mission just showed which one actually moves the needle. Democrats can keep being baffled by the method. We'd rather talk about whether it worked.
