A Kansas Senate candidate stood in a megachurch and told people to repent over a cheeseburger. That is not a metaphor. That is the actual position of Adam Hamilton, the Democrat hoping to unseat GOP Sen. Roger Marshall. Hamilton preached that eating beef is a moral wrong requiring spiritual apology, and Marshall was right to pull that sermon back into the light. It took exactly one day for a pastor with a national platform to sound less like a man of God and more like a focus-grouped climate activist.

The beef sermon is not a one-off. It is the natural endgame of a politics that turns everyday life into a sin list. People in Kansas know where their food comes from. They have neighbors who raise cattle, who work the feedlots, who put meat on tables across the country. To treat that livelihood as a stain on the soul is not humility. It is a condescending flex from a man who thinks he knows better than every farmer in his own state. Hamilton can apologize for the tones or claim it was taken out of context, but the words are on tape. The context doesn’t help him.

What makes this worse is that Hamilton is supposed to be the moderate option. The left gets a national megachurch pastor who can throw in “bless your heart” between lectures, but the substance is the same as every other Democrat: your traditions are a problem, your diet is a problem, your way of life is a problem. Marshall’s campaign did its job here. They found the thing Kansas voters actually need to hear. You don’t need to repent for eating beef. You do need to think twice about sending someone to Washington who thinks you do.
