AOC, 2028, and the coming of woke 2

Watching AOC spend a week distancing herself from her own 2020 answers is a little like watching someone try to quietly return a couch they bragged about buying. Defund the police, abolish ICE, the whole DSA fever dream era, she's not saying she was wrong exactly, she's just... not there anymore. That's not growth. That's a poll number telling her where the exits are.

The tell is who she's triangulating against. Not Republicans. Her own Democratic Socialists of America comrades, the ones still marinating in "peak woke" and confused about why nobody wants to buy it in a general election. AOC read the room before they did, which says less about her convictions than her instincts. She can smell 2028 the way a shark smells chum, and she knows the base that got her elected in a safe Bronx primary isn't the coalition you build a national campaign on.

None of this makes her less dangerous, it makes her smarter about packaging. The ideas haven't moved, just the marketing. If Democrats let her repackage the last five years as youthful exuberance rather than an actual governing agenda she still believes in, they'll nominate someone who spent a decade proving what she wants to do to this country and a month pretending she didn't mean it. We'd just ask reporters to keep the receipts handy, because she clearly hopes nobody else will.
