Democrats Blocked a Bill That Would Lower Your Electricity Prices

That piece in the Senate took about ten seconds to understand. Democrats blocked a bill that would have stopped data centers from shifting their power costs onto your monthly bill. Sen. Jon Husted called it exactly what it was, and he didn't mince words. These server farms are consuming electricity at a staggering rate, and somebody has to pay for the new transformers and substations. The Democrats' answer, apparently, is you.

The bill wasn't complicated. Large data centers would have had to cover more of the strain they put on the grid instead of passing it along to families already paying more for everything. Democrats chose Big Tech over your household. That's not a guess, that's the vote. They saw a chance to keep the lights on for the people back home and hit the no button. It's enough to make you wonder whose side they're actually on.

We're not here to strangle the digital economy. Data centers are part of the future and we want them humming. But there's no reason a residential ratepayer in Ohio should subsidize a company worth billions. That's not a hard concept. Yet here we are, watching a bill meant to protect your wallet get killed in a committee room while Husted and other Republicans rant into the void.

This is what the affordability talk always comes to. Democrats will tell you they care about working families until Silicon Valley's lobbyists make a phone call. Then suddenly the math "gets complicated." It isn't. Your power bill is not a partisan issue. But Democrats just made it one. We'll be reminding them of that every month it goes up.
