Eric Holder: What You're Seeing Coming Out of GOP 'Really Threatens Our Democracy'

Eric Holder went on MS NOW, a network most Americans still can't find on their remote, and declared that Republicans "really threaten our democracy." No specifics. No incident. No bill or vote or statement to point to. Just the phrase itself, delivered like it's self-evidently true because a former attorney general said it.

That's the tell. When "threat to democracy" gets used as a floating accusation instead of a description of something that actually happened, it's not analysis anymore. It's branding. Holder ran the Justice Department. He knows the difference between a legal argument and a talking point, and he chose the talking point.

The irony is that this line has been recycled so often it's lost whatever weight it once had. Every election cycle, someone senior enough to know better trots it out, and every time it lands a little softer than the last. People notice when the alarm bell rings on a schedule.

If Democrats think the GOP is actually dangerous, name the thing. Cite the policy. Make the case. Vague warnings on a friendly cable panel aren't a defense of democracy. They're just what you say when you don't have one.
