Graham to Face Off Against Democrat Andrews in SC Senate Debate

So we’re getting one live debate on Oct. 11, and that’s the whole announcement. No rules, no format, no moderator, no list of topics. Just a date on the calendar and two names: Sen. Lindsey Graham and Democrat Andrews. Fine. Debates are good. But a debate is only useful if voters can actually learn something.

Graham has been in Washington a long time, and he’s not running as a blank slate. He’s got a record, a lot of it public, and plenty of South Carolinians have mixed feelings about it. That’s not an insult, it’s reality. The question on Oct. 11 shouldn’t be who can land the cutest line. It should be: what did you do with power, and what are you going to do next. This can’t turn into another Sunday-night TV audition.

Andrews, for his part, needs to do more than say “change” and hope the word does the work for him. South Carolina isn’t a lab for national Democrats to run a vibe campaign and call it a day. We want specifics. Border, spending, crime, energy, jobs. If Andrews is going to come after Graham, he should tell voters what he’d replace him with, and how that agenda won’t just end up as another vote for Chuck Schumer’s priorities in a different suit.

Here’s what we’ll be watching for: does Graham talk like a senator protecting his seat, or like someone who remembers why South Carolina sends Republicans to Washington in the first place. And does Andrews have anything besides attack lines and ambition. Voters deserve contrast, not theater. If both camps are smart, they’ll treat Oct. 11 like the start of a real argument, not the final box to check.
