JONATHAN TURLEY: Nothing says 'Big Tent' like a good communist pogrom

Hasan Piker wants Democrats who criticized Abdul El-Sayed treated to something he's calling "Marxist-Leninist" punishment. Read that twice. This isn't a metaphor from some anonymous poster, it's a guy with millions of followers and a direct line into the party's youth vote openly invoking Leninist discipline against members of his own coalition for the crime of being insufficiently radical. Turley's headline joke about a "communist pogrom" is funny because it's barely a joke.

What's telling is the target. El-Sayed isn't being attacked by Republicans here, he's being defended from fellow Democrats who thought "radical" was a fair description of his politics. That's not a factional dispute anymore, that's a loyalty test with teeth. When your response to internal criticism is to reach for revolutionary vocabulary about punishing dissenters, you've told on yourself about what kind of politics you actually want.

Democrats have spent years selling themselves as the responsible, moderate alternative to MAGA extremism. It's hard to square that pitch with a rising media figure demanding ideological enforcement against the party's own centrists. Either the leadership calls this out by name, or they let it define what "the resistance" has actually become: a movement more interested in purging its own than winning elections.
