How We See It
Log Cabin Republicans have been around since the Reagan years, arguing that you could be gay and conservative without those two things canceling each other out. Now they've quietly dropped the T from their advocacy, and the reaction tells you something about where this debate actually stands. Nobody's shocked. That's the real story here.
For years the assumption on the left was that "LGBT" was a permanent, indivisible bloc, politically and culturally. But the letters were never glued together by anything deeper than alphabetical convenience. Gay conservatives were making the case that same-sex marriage was a matter of individual liberty and limited government reach into people's private lives.
That argument never required signing onto puberty blockers for twelve-year-olds or redefining what a woman is in federal law. Plenty of gay conservatives have said as much privately for years. Log Cabin just said it out loud.
What's notable is that this isn't coming from religious conservatives who never signed on to any of it. It's coming from inside a group that spent decades fighting for gay acceptance within the GOP. When your own coalition partners start pulling back from the T, that's not bigotry, that's a read on where public opinion actually sits after watching detransition stories, women's sports controversies, and school policies parents never voted for.
This will get framed as betrayal by activists who need the letters to stay locked together for fundraising and political leverage. But coalitions built on assumed unity rather than actual agreement tend to crack eventually. Log Cabin just admitted what a lot of people, gay and straight, have been thinking for a while.
