Michigan Dem Abdul El-Sayed wants Bill Maher to get his 'a-

Abdul El-Sayed wants to whoop Bill Maher’s backside on “Real Time.” That’s an odd thing for a Senate candidate to say, but it’s also perfectly telling. The Michigan Democrat isn’t talking about jobs, auto plants, or the border. He’s talking about a cable TV host who annoys him. That’s the left’s idea of a working-class message in 2024.

El-Sayed said this to Chuck Todd, no less. And the response from Democrats has been predictable: some clapping, some cringing, all of it missing the point. This is a guy who wants to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate. The state is full of voters who make things, fix things, and drive for a living. They don’t care about Bill Maher’s podcast takes. They care about whether their paycheck covers the groceries. El-Sayed would rather threaten Maher than explain one thing he’d actually do for them.

It’s not shocking that a progressive darling would rather posture for the coastal commentariat than talk to the folks in Macomb County. But it’s worth noting what this tells us. The Democratic Party is so comfortable with its own echo chamber that it thinks “I’ll fight Maher on HBO” sounds like leadership. Meanwhile, Republican candidates are talking about China, energy, and crime. One side wants to whoop a late-night comic. The other side wants to win the state.

Michigan voters aren’t stupid. They’ll notice El-Sayed’s priorities. And if he can’t handle Bill Maher without getting hot under the collar, imagine him across the table from a Chinese trade negotiator. There’s a reason this campaign is going nowhere. He’s fighting the wrong enemy, and he doesn’t even know it..
