Nancy Pelosi denies knowing of Biden's decline, faults those who knew

Nancy Pelosi wants us to believe she spent years in the same room as Joe Biden, one of the most powerful people on earth, and somehow never clocked what half the country was seeing on television. That's the claim. She didn't know. But the people who did know, she says now, should have acted. So nobody in her telling actually saw anything, except the people who apparently did, and they're the ones at fault.

This is the same move Washington always makes when a story gets too embarrassing to defend. Nobody lied, nobody covered anything up, there was simply an information gap that somehow only existed for the people asking questions about it. Pelosi was Speaker. She was in leadership meetings, on calls, at the White House. If she genuinely didn't notice, that's its own indictment. If she did notice, the "should have acted" line is just a way of pointing the finger anywhere but at herself.

Voters aren't stupid, and that's the part these post-hoc mea culpas keep missing. People watched the debate. They watched the stumbles, the confusion, the handlers steering him by the elbow. They didn't need insider access to see decline, they needed a television. So when a former Speaker of the House now says she was in the dark the whole time, it doesn't read as candor. It reads as someone trying to get ahead of a story after the fact, once the political cost of admitting the truth earlier has already been paid by everyone else.

What actually deserves scrutiny is the machine around Biden that decided the public didn't need to know what insiders reportedly did. That's the scandal. Pelosi pointing at unnamed "those around him" while insisting her own eyes and ears failed her for years isn't accountability. It's just the last chapter of the cover story.
