Lisa Murkowski being quiet before a big vote isn't a mystery anymore. It's a pattern. She goes silent, lets everyone speculate, and then breaks the other way when it counts. Todd Blanche is up for Attorney General, the top law enforcement job in the country, and she's the no vote nobody wanted to say out loud until it happened.

Here's the thing about Murkowski that Alaska Republicans have known for years: she's a Republican when it's convenient and something else entirely when the cameras are on. She wins her seat with a coalition that isn't really the GOP base, and then she governs like it. That's her right, technically. Alaska keeps sending her back. But let's not pretend this is some principled stand on qualifications. This is what she does.

The frustrating part isn't even the no vote itself. It's the silence beforehand, the refusal to give a straight answer to the people who'd have to sell this to voters, and then the reveal timed for maximum irritation. If she had concerns about Blanche, say them early, say them loud, make the case. Instead we get the drip-drip routine and then the vote drops like it's a surprise.

At some point the party has to stop being shocked by Murkowski and start planning around her. She's not a swing vote you court. She's a subtraction you budget for.
