Oklahoma Voice: Drummond to release drug test ahead of Oklahoma’s GOP primary

A candidate agreeing to release a drug test only after a debate moderator put him on the spot is not exactly a profile in transparency. It's a decent instinct arriving a beat late. If Drummond thought this was worth doing, the time to say so was before someone else had to ask.

That said, credit where it's due. He didn't dodge. He didn't hire a lawyer to draft a statement about "process concerns." He said yes, on camera, in front of voters, and now he has to follow through or explain why he didn't. That's more accountability than most primaries produce, and Oklahoma Republicans deserve to see whether he actually does it.

The bigger question is why this became newsworthy in the first place. Financial disclosures and health records used to be baseline expectations for anyone asking to run a state. Now releasing them counts as a moment. That says less about Drummond and more about how low the bar has sunk for candidates generally, and it's worth asking every other name on that primary ballot the same question a moderator just asked him.

Voters should watch for the follow-through, not the pledge. Promises made on a debate stage are cheap; records actually released are the only thing that counts..
