Outgoing House Democrat Al Green files another impeachment resolution targeting President Donald Trump

Al Green just lost his own primary and his response is to file another impeachment resolution on his way out the door. Not a farewell speech about his district, not some parting reflection on Texas politics. Impeachment. Again. This will be something like his fifth or sixth attempt, and every previous one has gone nowhere, including under a Democratic-controlled House.

That track record tells you what this actually is. It isn't a legal theory or a case built on new evidence. It's a lame duck member using his last few months in Congress to get one more headline before he's gone. Voters in his own primary decided they were done with him, and instead of taking that as a signal, he's spending his remaining time filing paperwork that everyone in the Capitol already knows is dead on arrival.

The bigger problem is what this does to the word "impeachment" itself. It used to mean something serious, a last resort for genuine constitutional crimes. Now it's a press release tool, deployed so often by a small handful of members that nobody outside their own base even reacts to it anymore. When you file the same resolution over and over with no path to passage, you're not holding anyone accountable. You're just running out the clock on your own career in the most attention-grabbing way available.

Green is entitled to his opinion of the president, and plenty of people disagree with Trump plenty of the time. Fine. But there's a difference between opposition and theater, and a retiring congressman filing a doomed resolution on his way out is pure theater. It won't move a single vote in the House, and everyone involved knows it.
