Paxton to Newsmax: Media Hiding Talarico's Views

the press suddenly gets shy when a Democrat’s record is the story. If the race is Paxton’s name on the screen, every headline writes itself. If it’s James Talarico’s ideas, we’re told it’s “complicated” or “nuanced.” Texans deserve better than that kind of selective curiosity. Scrutiny shouldn’t be a one-way street.

Talarico isn’t running for student council. He’s running for the U.S. Senate. Voters ought to hear, plainly, what he believes and what he’d do with power, not just what he posts in a tidy clip or how he “comes across” in an interview. If Paxton thinks the views are extreme, the answer isn’t to take his word for it. The answer is for reporters to put Talarico on the record and keep him there until the answers are clear. Show the receipts, then let Texans decide.

The media loves the referee role, but too often they play it like a home game. They’ll chase every hot take about Republicans while treating Democrats like a human-interest feature. That’s not “balance.” It’s laziness dressed up as professionalism. If Talarico’s positions can’t survive daylight, that’s on him. If they can, great, now voters actually know what they’re getting. Elections run on information, not vibes.

Paxton is going to be Paxton, blunt and combative. That’s part of the package, and the press will cover it whether he wants them to or not. Fine. Just do the other half of the job too. Ask Talarico the hard questions, quote the full answers, and stop acting like checking a Democrat is somehow rude. Texans can handle the truth. They’ve been asking for it.
