Rashida Tlaib to campaign against two Jewish House Democrats

Rashida Tlaib has every right to campaign for whoever she wants. That's not the story here. The story is that a sitting House Democrat is actively working to unseat two of her own party's Jewish members, and doing it alongside a socialist slate that's made no secret of why these particular seats are the target. Jared Moskowitz and Debbie Wasserman Schultz aren't exactly moderates by national standards. They're just Democrats who haven't gone along with the loudest voices on Israel in their own caucus.

Democrats can spin this as a normal primary fight, ideology versus ideology, generational change, whatever the talking point ends up being. But nobody should pretend the targeting is random. Tlaib has built her entire national profile around opposition to Israel, and now she's using her platform to try to replace two Jewish incumbents with candidates further to her left on that exact issue. That's a choice, and it's a telling one.

The bigger problem for Democrats is what this says about where their coalition actually stands. Party leadership keeps insisting antisemitism is a fringe concern, an overblown talking point Republicans use in bad faith. Then one of their own members goes out and campaigns against Jewish colleagues specifically, and the silence from the top is deafening. Voters notice who gets defended and who gets left to twist.

We don't need Tlaib to change her politics. We do think Democratic leadership owes their own members, and the voters watching this play out, an honest answer about whether this is the party they're actually running.
