RNC trolls DNC, Maine Democratic Party in letter offering to help restore trust, 'defend democracy’

The RNC's letter is a troll job, and a pretty good one. Offering to send "election lawyers and trained observers" to help Maine Democrats sort out the Graham Platner mess is the kind of move that only works because it's rooted in something real: a candidate imploding, a state party scrambling, and a national committee that has spent years lecturing everyone else about protecting democracy suddenly needing help protecting its own primary from itself.

That's the part worth sitting with. Democrats built an entire political identity around the idea that election integrity concerns are dangerous, fringe, maybe even seditious. Then their own candidate recruitment process produces a controversy big enough to force a scramble, and the party that got mocked for asking questions about how elections are run is the one offering a hand. You don't have to love the RNC's messaging to enjoy the irony.

Is it substantive? Not really. Nobody thinks the DNC is going to take them up on the offer, and nobody at the RNC expected them to. It's a press release dressed up as generosity, designed to get exactly the coverage it's getting. But political trolling works best when it's built on a true premise, and the premise here holds up: Maine Democrats have a real problem, and the last people who should be lecturing anyone about "restoring trust" are the ones currently trying to figure out how their own candidate got this far in the first place.
