The left had a field day, of course. They turned a senator’s facial expression into a meme and ran with it. But here’s the thing: what exactly is the joke? That a Republican showed a genuine human reaction? That she didn’t sit there with a practiced, poll-tested smile? Context matters. Whatever the colleague said, Britt’s face said what many of us were thinking. The horror was the appropriate response.

We hear a lot about authenticity in politics. Then a Republican delivers a moment of unguarded honesty and gets laughed at for it. The message is clear: conservatives are supposed to be robots, standing at attention, never betraying a stray thought. Britt broke that script. That’s a feature, not a bug.
