Sherrill calls for resignation of her lieutenant governor after

So Mikie Sherrill needed an investigation to figure out what a basic background check would have told her. The report on Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell describes "serious, repeated violations" of state policy, which is a polite way of saying her handpicked running mate was a liability from day one. Now she wants him gone. Funny how that works.

She picked him. She put him on the ticket, campaigned with him, and presented him as fit to lead New Jersey. There is no way to spin that into a victory for accountability. Sherrill is only doing this now because the report forced her hand. If the details had stayed quiet, Caldwell would still be in office and she would still be pretending everything was fine. This is not leadership. It is damage control.

Republicans get hammered for the sins of our worst people, and rightly so. But the left expects a parade when it finally mops up a mess it created. Sherrill does not deserve credit for doing the bare minimum when her governorship is on the line. New Jersey voters deserve better than a governor who learns about her own administration from an investigation report. If she really cares about conduct in government, she can start by explaining why she needed a probe to see what was in front of her face all along.
