Ten Democrats, including AOC, back AI superintelligence ban

So Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ro Khanna think they know better than the engineers building America’s future. They’re backing a bill to ban “artificial superintelligence” before it exists, alongside Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar. The bill defines it as an AI that “exceeds human cognitive performance” and says no, thanks, we’ll pass. That’s like outlawing cars because someone might drive too fast. It treats unknown future capability as an automatic threat rather than an opportunity to confront.

But here’s the real problem. This is a ban, not a regulation. It doesn’t propose safety standards, testing requirements, or oversight. It says stop. That would hand the future to China. Beijing is pouring billions into AI research while these ten Democrats want the United States to tap out of the race entirely. That’s not caution. It’s surrender dressed up as moral clarity, and a country that surrenders on technology doesn't get to complain about the consequences.

If the left truly cared about workers, they’d talk about retraining and education, not a blanket prohibition. Instead, they offer a scary phrase and a bill with zero chance of becoming law. It’s a stunt for the progressive primary crowd. AOC gets to pose as the defender of humanity while American industry loses ground in real time.

We don’t need techno-panic. We need American leadership. Let developers build, let the Pentagon deploy, and let the market separate real breakthroughs from hype. The superintelligence these leftists fear could be the biggest job creator of our lifetime, if we don’t let Democrats strangle it in the cradle.
