Trump to visit California and Nevada as part of economic tour

Trump picking California of all places to run his victory lap on the economy is either bold or trolling, and honestly it's probably both. But there's a reason it works as a backdrop. This is a state with some of the highest taxes in the country, a housing crisis that never ends, and a homelessness problem that Sacramento has thrown billions at without much to show for it. If you want to make a point about what happens when government grows and results don't follow, you don't have to invent anything. You just point out the window.

Newsom's people will call this a stunt, and sure, there's theater in it. Presidents don't fly across the country to hold a nuanced policy seminar. But the underlying contrast the White House wants to draw isn't fabricated. California has raised taxes repeatedly while watching businesses and residents leave for Texas, Nevada, and Florida. That's not a talking point, it's a migration pattern you can track with U-Haul rates.

Pairing the trip with a Nevada stop is smart politics too. Nevada has no income tax and has been quietly absorbing Californians fleeing the exact policies Trump plans to criticize. Put the two states side by side and the message writes itself without much embellishment needed.

Democrats will say this is Trump distracting from something else, because that's the reflex. Maybe. But if the state with the nation's fifth-largest economy is really doing this well, it shouldn't need a press strategy to survive one presidential visit and some pointed remarks.
