Florida’s ‘Moderate’ Democrat Rolls Out Welcome Mat For Kamala

David Jolly wants Florida Democrats to believe he’s the moderate who can break the streak. Then he went and said Kamala Harris “should have beaten Donald Trump” and that he’d be thrilled to have her on the trail with him. That’s not a moderate. That’s a guy trying to sell the same losing recipe with a new label.

Florida voters got a close look at the Harris agenda in 2024. They turned it down, and they weren’t subtle about it. Trump won the state by double digits. Bringing Harris back to campaign for governor isn’t outreach. It’s a signal to every Democrat in Florida that their leadership learned nothing from the last two election cycles.

The welcome mat was already out for Harris before Jolly's comments. And there's the problem for the Jolly campaign: he can say "moderate" all he wants, but his own invitation tells voters exactly where his loyalties sit. Meanwhile, Florida Republicans have an easy contrast. They’re running on results, not on bringing back a candidate who lost the state by a landslide.

Jolly may think he's being clever. But in a state that rejected Harris once, rolling out the red carpet for her is a strategy for losing, not winning. We’ll see if Florida Democrats are ready to admit what everyone else already sees.
